a) Why is it hard to determine how big the Internet is today? Give several reasons.

The internet is a network of networks. It carries a lot of national, statewide, and regional netwroks including hundreds of networks in colleges and research labs and thousands of commercial sites all over the planet. No one has the power to control the Nets operation or evolution. It, the internet, is considered to be a huge anarchy. Here are three main reasons why its impossible to determine how big the internet is:

  • The internet is seriously growing waaay too fast! Millions of new users go on and create blogs, websites and profiles. And the other millions (or billions) of people who are on are adding new connections by the minute.

  • There is no "Internet Central" to keep track of all of the people.

  • The internet doesnt have hard boundaries.

b) Why are TCP/IP protocols so important to the functioning of the Internet? What do they do?

TCP/IP protocols are so important because internet seriously cannot function without them.
