Discussion ?s in text book

1.
Carrying flash memory device--
Pros:
  • easier to access info
  • faster to use
Cons:
  • stolen
Carrying private PC--
Pros:
  • safer
Cons:
  • stolen and unprotected.
2. I think that its better to keep a flash memory wit you. This is because its a lot more private and only you can access it. Unless if stolen.

Review ?s

1- define biometrics:

A method of identifying individuals based on biological properties, where the technology scans a body part to match the information with data previously stored in the system

2- list and explain a use of a biometrics system in each area of impact.
Businesses and governments are impacted by biometrics. They buy them and use for employers and security reasons.

3- explain how one type of biometric system works.

Biometric works from when technolgy scans a body part to match a previously saved data already stored. For example, finger scan, retina scan and vocie recognition

3- who approves/disapproves of the use of biometrics?

Approves: DISNEY! banks, gas stations, law enforcements.

4- explain 3 concerns regarding the use of the biometrics system.

3 concerns: -total lack of privacy!!! -lack of policy standards -not interchangeable

5- explain 3 advantages to using the biometrics system.

3 advantages: -good for security -convenient for customers -accurate to what the employer needs.

6- what is the benefit of using biometrics as shown in the last clip?

Review ?s

7. The advantages of nonimpact printers is that they are extremly fast, durable, and reliable. the only disadvantage may be that their ink costs a lot.
8.
9.Difference between sequential-access and random-access is that sequential-access memory can only get memory in the order it was recorded. As for random-access is used in everyday computing. Sequential memory is used for backing up data or other operations that up less time.

5. What are the advantages of CRT monitors over LCD's?
The advantages of CRT monitors over LCD's are that theyre inexpensive and they produce high-qualityimages at a variety of resolutions.

6.Name at least two hardware devices that use LCDs because using a CRT would be impractical.
Two hardware devices:
-laptops
-projectors
-camcorder
-camera
-cell phones

3. The person accountable is also John Parkinsn

Reading Review ?s 12/23

  • List five input devices and three output devices that might be attached to a PC. Describe a typical use for each.
INPUT:
1. Keyboard: used for typing
2. Mouse: used for moving the pointer and clicking different links and files.
3. Joy Stick: a controller used for arcade games
4. Touchpad: a substitute for mouse, used by dragging finger across to move pointer.
5. Smart White board: used to do activities during meetings or classes, similar to a projector.

OUTPUT:
1. Monitor: a one-way window between computer and user.
2. Printer: produces a hard copy to paper.
3. Projectors: projects screen images for meetings and classes.
  • Name and describe three special-purpose input devices people commonly use in public places, such as stores, banks, and libraries.
-Bar code Readers: uses light to read codes created from patterns and such.
-RFID: (radio frequency identification tags). these tags broadcast its unique identification number to the reader which digitizes the info for input into a comp.
-Magnetic ink character readers: reads odd-shaped numbers printed with magnetic ink on checks.
  • Many people find that the mouse is impractical for use as a pointing device on a laptop computer. Describe at least three alternatives that are more appropriate.
  1. touchpad
  2. pointing stick
  3. trackball

Crtira G and H--dog draft

G: Identifying the Problem within Social Context--

This year, the first senior class will be graduating and leaving Al-Arqam Islamic School and College Preparatory forever. This is their last year to set traditions, break school rules and receive a memento from the school. They thing it would be really nice to have a special and loving memento from the school that appreciates them and is also a sort of farewell gift. However, the school is too busy to have someone work on a gift for the seniors. They are working hard on the new IB school and curriculum as well as making the school better known within the state. One of the IT solutions help make the school more well-known within the community and helps outsiders see it as well.

H: Analysis and Feasibility Study--

Two possible IT Solutions are a Senior Slideshow or a Senior Sweater.

Senior Slideshow:

This slideshow consists of photographs of the senior class throughout their years in the school as well as their senior pictures.

Review ?s in text. pg. 60

3.

4. Information is stored in some kind of binary format because it cant understand words. It has to be given a little bit by little bit.

5. You normally cant run Macintosh software on a PC with Intel Pentium 4 CPU because they have a different set since they are older computers. A PowerPC CPU cant decipher Intel Pelitium instructions and vice versa.

6.Another factor in determining a CPUS's processing speed is by
7. Its important that computers support both internal and external expansions because then you would be able to plug in a keyboard, a mouse and even the monitor itself. You can also put in cards called PC cards that have memory in them and you can save files onto it.
8. Symmetrical multiprocessing can increase a computers performance by giving it more room and memory, which makes them work faster. Some examples of symmetric multiprocessing is the Xbox 360 and the Play Station 3.
9. The difference between RAM and ROM is that the RAM contains information temporarily and can loose info where as ROM is the back-up to the RAM, and keeps information on it.
10. The difference between primaray and secondary storage is that the primary storage is the hard drive which is also used for the CPU. examples of hard drives: the RAM and ROM. Secondary storage is when you used flash drives, cd's, floppy disks, etc.

Revieew on pages 36-43 COMPUTERS!

-What are the four basic functions of a computer?
The four basic units of a computer is an output device, and input device, a memory board, and a microprocessor.
- What does CPU stand for?
CPU stands for Central Processing Unit. Its is the brain of the computer.
- Explain what a bit is.
A bit is a binary number. It is the smallest unit of information a computer can process.
- Name two codes used to convert words, etc. into bits.
One cods is ASCII (American Standard Code for Information) and Unicode.
- Why is informations stored in some kind of binary format in computers?
Information is stored in some kind of binary format in computers because computer chips are made with transistors that can only be on or off position.

notes on youtube computer video

there are seven major components in comp
1. motherboard is the heart of comp.
2. cpu is the central processing unit. its the brain of computer and runs everything
3. ram: random access memory, carries data and sits on motherboard.
4. video card: connects to motherboard with special card. creates images on computer.
5. power supply: sits ontop of case and supplies power for the case
6. hard disk: holds ur info even when the power is off.
7. optical drive: sits in front. uses laser to read or write on dvds or cds.
