Review ?s

a) Why is it hard to determine how big the Internet is today? Give several reasons.

The internet is a network of networks. It carries a lot of national, statewide, and regional netwroks including hundreds of networks in colleges and research labs and thousands of commercial sites all over the planet. No one has the power to control the Nets operation or evolution. It, the internet, is considered to be a huge anarchy. Here are three main reasons why its impossible to determine how big the internet is:

  • The internet is seriously growing waaay too fast! Millions of new users go on and create blogs, websites and profiles. And the other millions (or billions) of people who are on are adding new connections by the minute.

  • There is no "Internet Central" to keep track of all of the people.

  • The internet doesnt have hard boundaries.

b) Why are TCP/IP protocols so important to the functioning of the Internet? What do they do?

TCP/IP protocols are so important because internet seriously cannot function without them.

Mainframe and Microcomputer

The difference between a mainframe and microcomputer is that a mainframe is room-sized machines with price tags to match. Banks and airlines still use mainframes for big computing jobs. A Microcomputer is pretty much a PC--Personnel Computer. PCs is a computer which is designed to be used by one person at a time as a tool for enhancing productivity, creativity, or communication. They are in offices, factories, homes, schools, and pretty much everywhere else. They can be classified as desktop computers, workstations, or laptop computers. PCs have taken many tasks that were originally performed by larger computers. With the rise of PCs, users gained a lot more control over their computing environments.

TechReflect: major events b4 20th century

Major events before the twentieth century influenced the development of computers. In the early nineteenth century, computers were humans. They had made mathematical tables which, they found out, carried many mistakes. This is when a British pair, Charles Babbage and Augusta Ada King, the Countess of Lovelace, thought of a construction of mechanical computers that would automatically and reliably perform the tasks in which the mathematical table did. However, it took engineers 125 years to be able to make that thought into a reality.

Automobiles and the television are good examples of tech inventions that have seriously changed our lives. Some good things about automobiles is that they help you get to places faster, hence creating a faster way to run errands, go to school, buy groceries, visit people, etc. But just as their are good things, there are also bad things about automobiles. Automobiles make us humans forget how to walk a long time-span. We gain weight, become more lazy and we forget to appreciate the automobile, or "cars". Some positive things about television is that it helps you to see a different world, they tell stories, and also keep us updated on whats going on around the world. With television, we can watch educational films about space, earth and animals. It is our source of entertainment as well as education. However, there are also many negative things about television. The television carries profanity, bad morals and inappropriate scenes and/or images. This can cause children to say foul language, act improperly and being too mature while be so young--in a bad way. Even thought i watch TV and its something i watch almost regularly, I can definitely live without it. Because even thought there are some good things, the bad outweighs it so much more. Whereas the automobile, even though we become fat and lazy, it is still very important to have something that can take you somewhere far in a short time period and carry bags of groceries and or clothes.

The computer is very interesting. It is used for education as well as entertainment. You can watch educational bio clips on how to dissect something to researching on wikipedia on a scholar or bacteria for an essay. You can also watch movies, play games and do so much more! but there are also a lot of bad things about computers. It takes up too much time and it too contains inappropriate things for children. However, the computer is totally awesome and i cannot live without it!
