topic of discussion.
privacy over info in diff. cultures--
info put on the internet can hurt us. ppl can easily find photos, address, name, etc by ur info on internet n can steal identity. employers have to inform employyees if doin internet use.
chinas news publishing has to keep info on ppl for at least 60 days.
rights of individuals w/ respect to storage of personal data--
regulation issues in europe are very strict n difficult to comprehend. DNA.
invasion of privacy even tho its alsa said to help keep down crimes. Gov. given public access to the ppls phone numbers, etc. US has loose protection laws. anyone can take ur pic, etc.
social consequences in the lease of some data--
if data taken, big problem. u can lose money and be given a crime u didnt comit. social security number, tax info, and other stuff.
database is in a harddrive. all info stays on hardware. when u delete, its not entirely deleted. one can easily get their hands on hardware and recover everything.
ethical issues relating to selling data--
another issue is security. social security numbers can be used to identity theft. there are laws for these issues. database must collect data that is only needed. database must inform owner of collected data. to secure accuresy of info etc.
paper files vs. electronic files--
businesses use electronoic way more than paper. its way easier to search files than paper. databse lets anyone person to check it out. most electronic has flaws tho. a persons info can be on database. even if deleted, its still there. nothing can be deleted unless if you just override it. that whats more private bout paper. you can shred it.
Responsabilities for secure of data and databases--
file boxes conain cell numbers, social sec. numbers, ec give out heckaaaa info on millions of ppl. its easy to follow databse. companies retaining info
to prevent breaches, they neeed firewals, etc. consumers have to be careful with what they give out.
social consequences of outdated or incorrect info in databases--
you have to be very careful with what you give out. a person can go onto a diff. database to get info on you. some databases might not have the correct info on you. if they have wrong info on you u wont get what you services you need.

Review ?s pg. 259 #7-11
7. When you sort a data file, you pretty much re-arrange the files alphabetically.
8.
9. Record matching is used to obtain informaton about youby compiling files by combining information from different databases. As long as the table in the databases share a single unique field, then it will be trivial and quick. And example of this is a Social Security number.
10. Yes we have a legal right to privacy.

2. Compilers and other translator programs compiles the complete translation of the program in a high-level computer language before the program runs for the first time.
Software applications allow users to control computers and perform certain actions without being a programmer.
System software is a software that handles details like which parts of the computer's memory holds a document including the operating system and utility programs.
3. The opperating system has to be the first one put into the drive because its the one that communicates with the harddrive.
4. Ehh?
5. The single-user operating system allows the user to run multiple applications at the same time by creating tasks. Because the CPU can only perform one process at a time, the OS takes schedules amd also manages virtual memory. Multi-user OSs are responsible for authentication (user names and passwords) and authorization (allowing only those with adminstrative priviliges to install or uninstall application programs).

RQ & DQ #1 pg. 134
RQ:
1. The relationship between a program and an algorithm is that programs starts off as an algorithim written in English or some other human language.
DQ:
1. Writing instructions for a computer may be harder than writing instructions for a human because the computer doesnt have a brain to fully understand a concept and ur language. To make them understand, you have to use codes, etc. Whereas humans just use their brains and dont need everything to be all the way done for them to fully understand.

Discussion ?s 1, 3, 6
1. E-commerce is very crucial in now-a-day's tech-society. Where internet is the most used, people would rather order thing and but goods online then leave the comfort of their own home. However, though it is so much more practical, its not always a good thing. When buying clothes, you might get a size too big or a size too small--and thats because you didn't try them on! I think that the impact e-commerce haves on customers is now laziness.
3. I can identify opportunities dealing with an extranet by a university or college. A student can definitely receive more info from their for studies, watch classes online, etc.
6. Privacy is perhaps one of the most vital necessities one must have. Personally, i would pay extra for an item i purchased online in return for a guarantee that the company would sell info about my purchase to anyone else. However, when it comes to my own personal comfort, i would tell a store personal info to receive personal service--if i needed it.
